PERMANENT HAIR REDUCTION
Through Pulsed Light

The Old Solutions

If you live with unwanted hair, you've probably tried some of the typical solutions, such as shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. If so,you' ve also found that:

  • Shaving is a daily nuisance

  • Waxing is painful and only a short-term solution

  • Electrolysis is effective, but it only treats one hair follicle at a time, it is extremely time - consuming

The Pulsed Light Alternative

Palomar Pulsed Light System offers a lasting solution for unwanted hair.

  • Permanent: Concentrated pulses of light loosen the hair and disable the cells responsible for new hair growth.

  • Fast: Small areas, such as the underarms or upper lip, can be treated in 10 minutes or less, and even large areas, like the back or legs, can be treated in under an hour.

  • Comfortable: Various cooling methods keep the light pulse mild and skin - safe, allowing for more comfortable treatments than electrolysis and waxing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How Does pulsed light work?

Pulses of laser light are applied to the skin. The light penetrates the skin and generates heat. The heat is absorbed by the pigment ( melanin) in the roots of hair, beneath the surface of the skin. During a certain growth stage of the hair, the absorption of this heat will damage or destroy the hair. Several conditions must exist for this to happen effectively.

There must be pigment in the hair. White or very blonde hair does not contain enough melanin to absorb the amount of heat needed to damage the hair. This means that white or very blonde hair does not respond to laser hair removal.

The hair follicle (or root) must be present. This means that waxing or tweezing or other methods of temporary hair removal which pulls the hair out by the root can not be used prior or in between laser treatments. Shaving or trimming or depilatory creams can be used this will allows the hair roots to remain.

Because the pulse light sees melanin you must refrain from the sun, sun tanning beds or sunless tanning products during the course of treatments. Otherwise pigmentation or a stripping effect can occur and will take 6 month or longer to fade.

Just prior to a treatment the visible hair in the area to be treated must be removed by shaving. If hair is present above the surface of the skin, it will absorb some of the heat, which is intended for the root, decreasing the effectiveness of the treatment. Lasering visible hair can also cause unnecessary irritation to the skin.

Who is not a candidate any one with white, light blonde or very fine hair, any one with a auto immune disease, anyone pregnant, anyone on photo- sensitive medication, anyone who has been exposure to the sun, suntan beds or sunless tanning products within the last 3 weeks.

How Many Laser Treatments are Necessary?

This varies from person to person. It also varies from area to area on the same individual. Generally speaking, however, most people get the desired results in 5-8 treatments per area.

Treatments are usually scheduled from 3-6 weeks apart. This depends on the amount of hair that grows ( or doesn't ) between treatments. Scheduling appointments too closely may not be as worthwhile as possible, while allowing too much time between treatments may reverse some amount of progress.

The most realistic description of the results of a typical course of laser hair removal treatments, "permanent hair reduction."

After 4-8 treatments, the amount of hair is generally reduced by 70 - 90 %, and the hair which does continue to grow is usually much finer and lighter in color. These results appear to be permanent in many people - at least during the 8-9 years lasers have been used for hair removal.

Most people are very pleased with this degree of improvement.

While certain types of hair, make better candidates for laser hair removal than others, there is no way to predict or guarantee any individual results before beginning treatments. For whatever biological reasons, laser treatments occasionally don't work on hair which visually appears to be the type of hair that will respond well to the laser.

What should you expect during & after treatments?

A thin coat of ultrasound gel will be applied to the skin for cooling before each treatment. Cotton pads and eye shields will be used to cover the eyes during the treatment. Intense Pulse Light System is much safer to the eye than lasers. It does however have a very bright Flash of light that will leave spots in front of your eyes similar to looking into a big camera light. It may also trigger a headache if you are prone to light stimulating headaches.

Immediately after treatments, you can expect a mild sun burn - like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2 - 24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.

The treated hair will continue to appear for 7 - 30 days post - treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin.

At any given time, some of your hair is not in phase of active growth. Therefore you will need more than one treatment to affect the growth of all your unwanted hair.

Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent hair reduction.
